For the past six years a group of my cousins have taken a trip, we keep returning to the Truckee/Tahoe area – there must be a reason.

We like staying in cabins together so we can all gather around the kitchen table or relax on the deck together. Did I say relax? I meant battle it out over board games. There are a multitude of cabin options on sites such as VRBO. Plus in Truckee/Tahoe area there’s a variety of activities for everyone to choose from!

The first morning we visited Donner Memorial State Park to learn about the history of the ill-fated Donner party and take a short hike along the lake.

After our hike, a quick Yelp search revealed rave reviews for Burger Me!. After eating there, I have to agree! My cheeseburger slider was the perfect size, fries were yummy, and the strawberry milkshake was delicious!

From there, a short walk took us to downtown Truckee. I loved all of the shops featuring local artists, my favorite was Riverside Studios where I picked up two pairs of earrings.

In the afternoon we returned to Donner Memorial State Park for a spin on standup paddle boards (SUP) a cousin brought. The main part of Donner Lake was far too windy for us, so we paddled around in the sheltered area near the lake’s outlet. For those without their own equipment, there was a rental place along South Shore Drive with a variety of water crafts.

On Sunday we had one more experience – for the adventurous or those willing to step out of their comfort zone, Tahoe Treetop Adventure Park is a great trip. A 40-minute drive took us to Granlibakken just south of Tahoe City. After we were geared up and completed ground school, we were free to choose our own adventure on the Monkey Courses, which included one beginner course, three intermediate, and one advance. There were great options for all comfort levels.

I’d call this another successful cousin’s trip; now to decide on next year’s destination…
